On September 24, 2019, with the initiative of the Georgian National Committee of the Blue Shield will\u00a0be organized a one-day seminar “Preserving Modernist Architecture and the Importance of their Adaptation based on the\u00a0 Example of Best Practices”. The seminar will be led by Riin Alatalu, an Estonian cultural heritage\u00a0preservation\u00a0expert and will be aimed at\u00a0civil\u00a0service specialists working\u00a0on urban and architectural heritage management. The workshop participants will be introduced to the\u00a0technical characteristics of Soviet modernist architectural heritage,\u00a0to it’s importance and means of safeguarding,\u00a0to some of the\u00a0endangered buildings and successful examples of their\u00a0preservation from Estonia and other countries. Ms. Riin will also talk about sustainable use and reuse\u00a0of this type of architecture.<\/p>\n
Within the scope of the expert’s mission, on September 26, at 18:30, a public lecture dedicated to the Importance of preservation of late soviet modernist architectural heritage will be held in the Auditorium of the National Parliamentary Library of Georgia.<\/p>\n
On the lecture invited expert will talk about the importance of preserving soviet modernist heritage, common challenges faced by former Soviet countries in conserving and adapting Soviet era architectural masterpieces. On the lecture examples of successful conservation cases from Estonia, Russia and Latvia will be presented.<\/p>\n
Both, the seminar and the\u00a0lecture will be held within the framework of the project \u201cConservation of Modernist Architecture and its Sustainable Use in Georgia\u201d, implemented by the Georgian National Committee of the Blue Shield under the Getty Foundation’s Keeping It Modern Initiative.<\/p>\n
